Vasily Danilenko

The artist

Baptized by the sea. On the island of Mallorca, in the mornings, I watched as fishermen launched their large boats into the water. Before going to sea, they crossed themselves, turning to God. At that moment, it seemed that this place became a kind of temple. The construction of the boats - masts, yards, and wooden beams - resembled many crosses. And the small fishing port became a ritual place.

Here, the boats seem to be proud of the fact that they remain strong, despite the severe tests of storms, salt, and winds. They say: "We are strong because we are baptized by the sea!"

In 2014, he returned to painting, specializing in portraits, landscapes, and still lives. His style is realism, close to the late neo-academicism.

Multiple winner of international painting competitions. Exhibited in the Tretyakov Gallery (Moscow, Russia) and ArtPlay Gallery (Moscow, Russia), in the halls of the Artists' Union of St. Petersburg (Russia). The Swiss gallery Artboxy presented the artist's works at the exhibitions: Casa del Arte Palma, Palma de Mallorca, Spain (2024), Zug, Switzerland (2024), ArtBasel, Switzerland (2025), ArtExpo New York, USA (2025), Galery Nicoletta, Berlin, Germany (2025), SwissArtExpo, Zurich, Switzerland (2025). Oil on canvas, 80x80

Depiction: The Venetian canal Rio Menùo o de la Verona in the central San Marco district. In the 17th-18th centuries, merchants often transported fabrics by gondola along this waterway, facilitated by its proximity to the famed La Fenice Theater. The grand arches in the buildings served as "garages" for boats.
Genre: The painting belongs to veduta-a meticulous urban architectural landscape style, born three centuries ago, where historical monuments were depicted in detail. Wealthy travelers and visitors often collected these views as souvenirs. Masters of the genre include Canaletto, Bellotto, and Guardi.
